Okanagan, Canada has some excellent historical sites in the area. Many of the historical sites in the area have self-guided tour brochures to help visitors explore the areas. Learn about the First Nations, the history of steam-powered trains, or collecting crystals.

Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre – Osoyoos

This is an outdoor historical site located in Osoyoos. Here you will find cultural exhibits, arts, and interactive exhibits. The exhibit is called “The Land, the Legends and the People.”  You will learn about the Okanagan First Nations, animals, and desert plants.

You’ll have the chance to try the hands-on displays, see outdoor sculptures, and walk the trails through the sagebrush habitat. They have guided tours, rattlesnake demonstrations, cultural programs, and a reconstructed aboriginal village. Before you leave, you can stop at the the gift shop for First Nations art and apparel.

Kamloops Heritage Railway – Kamloops

Visit a time when steam-powered trains were the main way to travel. Here you can take a tour and watch re-enactments of the railway operations. They’ll give you a walking tour as well. At Christmastime, they offer a Spirit of Kamloops Ghost Train & Spirit of Christmas special event. Learn about Bill Miner and his team robbing a train back in 1906.

Rock Candy Mine – Grand Forks

Head to Grand Forks for a guided tour where visitors can learn how to collect various crystals. They’ll get to experience the view from the top of the mountain above the Granby as well. The ground is covered in purple and green fluorite and you can pick as much as you like. You’ll find sparkling fluorite crystals, yellow barite crystals, and quartz crystal geodes.

There are some wonderful historical sites in Okanagan. Along with these options, you could try one of the local museums to learn more about the history of the area.
