Local museums in Okanagan really capture the history of Okanagan. Nearby museums in Kelowna and Kamloops have very impressive musuems as well. Here are the top museums in the area for locals and visitors to enjoy.
Nicola Valley Museum Archive - 1675 Tutill Court, Merritt
This museum best features railway, ranching, mining, and logging. Nicola Valley Museum Archive displays history on the pioneers, the cowboy judge Henry Castillou, James Teit, and the First Nations. Open all year, Nicola Valley has excellent collections of rail travel, pioneer kitchen, churches, military uniforms, and early mining history. Admission is only $2 suggested donation.
Ashcroft Museum - 402 Brink Street, Ashcroft
This is one of the best museums from the inside in the area. They display handcrafts from the First Nation and Chinese in habitants, and also what life was like in the 1800s. You can see what a dining table would look like back then, because walking through the museum is like walking down the street and peeking into houses. They have replicas of early stores and a history of farming with stories of area pioneer’s families.
Dreamcycle Motorcycle Museum - 3096 Trans-Canada Highway 1, Sorrento
If you want to check out some rare models of motorcycles, head to the Dreamcycle Motorcycle Museum. The museum has a world class collection of motorcycles. Learn about the history, see the art, and visit the gift shop for souvenirs and collectibles. Before you leave, stop by the care for some homemade treats.
Armstrong/Spallumcheen Museum and Art Gallery - 3415 Pleasant Valley Road, Armstrong
Host of the annual “Festival of Trees” at Christmastime, the Armstrong/Spallumcheen Museum and Art Gallery is home to incredible local artwork and artifacts collected by the Society. The gift shop offers postcards and books from the area, and they also host a monthly art show featuring artists from North Okanagan.
These are some of the great museums to learn about the history and beauty of Okanagan.
