It’s that season where the holidays are here again. Okanagan knows how to celebrate the season right by bringing special events to the area. This year you can enjoy the 27th annual Festival of Lights. The event is the true kick-off party for the holidays. Here is what you can expect at the 2014 Summerland’s 27th Festival of Lights.
Summerland
Summerland is a friendly town in Okanagan with about 11,000 residents. It’s a quiet town where people love to relax and shop. This event is one of the highlights of the year for the area. Summerland is a short drive from nearby communities.
The event that started 27 years ago was thought of by some creative individuals that wanted to show people that Summerland was a great place to live. It gives residents and visitors a great Christmas celebration. Now the event sees 6,000 guests each year putting the area on the map. The light up festival is the premier Christmas celebration in Okanagan.
What to Expect
This year the theme is “Christmas Rocks.” The streets will be lit up on the 28th all nice while you can enjoy rock n’ roll, carnival games, street performers, light up head gear and fire performances. The event will start with Santa’s procession, the light up will take place at 7pm and then the fireworks will happen an hour and a half after that set to reggae Christmas music.
You can purchase food during the event from sponsors such as the Nesters’ Chicken Fajita cookout, the holiday-themed drinks from The Beanery Café, the BBQ Kabobs by IGA Summerland and the three course special from Zia’s Stonehouse.
You’ll love the Ice Caving taking place by the Ice Décor team from Vancouver. They will have two live carving stations. There is also a children’s area with Santa’s workshop, letters to Santa program, pony rides, bouncy castles and fun games.
When
The event will take place on the evening of November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. It will take place from 5pm-10pm. The Santa procession will start the event at 5pm, the light-up will take place at 7pm and there will be fireworks at 8:30pm.
