The Black hills Estate Winery is located north of Osoyoos on the famous Black Sage Road. The terroir is in the middle of Canada’s only “official desert” and is known for being an exceptional vineyard. This microclimate allows the vineyard to have one of the sunniest, driest and hottest sites in the country.

The vineyard enjoys longer sunlight hours than even Napa Valley due to the northern latitude. This sunlight comes during the most crucial growing months, June through August. Not only is there great heat and sunlight during the day but it is followed by very cool nights that allow the grapes to fully ripen.

The Winegrower literally breathes, sleeps and eats the grapes as he lives in the middle of this terroir-centric vineyard.

This Vineyard has Clonal Diversity

Ten different clones are grown at the vineyard. Two are Cabernet Franc, four Merlot and four Cabernet Sauvignon. After barrel aging they are blended together and create complexity and depth to the Nota Bene.This clonal diversity, fermented and barrel aged separately, is the key to Black Hills Estate Winery.

What sustainable farming practices are in place?

The winery is committed to sustaining wine making and friendly farming practices that are environmentally friendly. All of the vines are hand pruned, maintained and hand-picked by vineyard workers without machinery.

The Federal and Provinicial Departments of Agriculture, BC Agriculture Council and Investment Agriculture Foundation have awarded the winery the Environmental Farm Plan Status.
